The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe - Country Office Macedonia organized a joint event on the 2nd of April 2019 in EBRD’s premises to promote the EBRD’ programme Advice for Small Businesses to UNIDO qualified experts for energy management systems (EnMS). One of the objectives of the EBRD’s programme Advice for Small Businesses is to provide expert technical assistance for increasing energy efficiency in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to promote their competitiveness and social responsibility.
The Industrial Energy Efficiency Project of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF), locally implemented by the Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe - Country Office Macedonia (REC COM), trained 29 experts for implementing energy management systems (EnMS) in accordance with UNIDO methodology and the international standard ISO 50001. The project has implemented EnMS in over 20 national companies.
The synergies between the EBRD’s programme Advice for Small Businesses and the UNIDO-GEF Project for Industrial Energy Efficiency were discussed at the event, connecting the financial instrument of the EBRD and the technical expertise by the UNIDO, which can jointly increase energy efficiency and reduce energy consumption in SMEs, as well as promote investments in energy efficiency.
The event was attended by Ms. Maja Kooistra and Ms. Sonja Ingilizova from the EBRD’s programme Advice for Small Businesses and the qualified UNIDO EnMS experts.
