May 16, 2018, Memorandum for cooperation was signed between the Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe and the Customs Administration of the Republic of Macedonia.
The purpose of this Memorandum of understanding is to establish a cooperation between the Customs Administration of the Republic of Macedonia and REC COM towards the development of the methodology for calculation of the taxation of vehicles, that will be used during the preparation of the Draft Law on taxation of vehicles. The Methodology must take into consideration the best practices of the countries members of EU, in accordance to the conditions of the Macedonian passenger vehicles market, the local environmental and climate conditions, as well as the purchasing power of the citizens.
REC CO Macedonia is working on a project for stabilizing greenhouse gas emissions from road traffic through the doubling of the global fuel economy: regional implementation of the global initiative for fuel economy, that is, decrease of the fuel consumption by 50% for new vehicles until 2030 and 50% for all vehicles until 2050.
The project is financed by the Global environmental fund (GEF) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
The signing of this Memorandum has occured as a need within the project, in order to provide a more substantial and facilitated cooperation directly with the Customs Administration of the Republic of Macedonia, which at the moment is working on the preparation of a Draft Law on vehicle taxation. With today’s signing of this Memorandum a new chapter is being opened in cooperation with REC CO Macedonia with the Macedonian institutions in order to reach the final goal, provided conditions for a better and healthier life of the citizens of the Republic of Macedonia.
