The Regional Environmental Center (REC) – Country Office Macedonia, participated on the annual meeting of the countries from Eastern Europe and Caucasus of the Global Fuel Economy (GFEI), held on October 19-20 in Georgia. Mrs. Ana Petrovska, Senior Technical Expert and Mr. Jozhe Jovanovski, Technical Expert participated on the meeting as persons working on the UNEP Project in Macedonia.
On the meeting Mrs. Petrovska had a presentation for the promotion of the project “Stabilizing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from road transport through doubling of global vehicle fuel economy: Regional implementation of the Global Fuel Economy Initiative” implemented in the Republic of Macedonia.
Mrs. Petrovska presented the main scope of the project – preparation of the National Fuel Economy Policy. The main components of the presentation were the prepared data basis of registered vehicles in the Republic of Macedonia and the possibilities for the establishment of a Central Registry for vehicles and reforms of the taxation system in the Republic of Macedonia, in terms of entering the СО2 emissions as a taxation criteria.
Besides Macedonia, representatives from several countries from Eastern Europe and Caucasus where the project is being implemented, such as Montenegro, Moldova, Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia, were present on the meeting as well as representatives from the UN Environment.
Previously, on October 19, 2017 a presentation was held by the International Energy Agency IEA, where the last achievements by the GFEI Initiative and its implementation on a global level were presented, as well as the new policies and initiatives with regard to the Fuel Economy in the road transport and for heavy road vehicles.
The Annual meeting was an excellent opportunity to exchange experiences from the GFEI implementation in the region and to share the latest initiatives on a global level with regard to the Fuel Economy.
