Massimo Cozzone earned a degree in nuclear engineering from the University of Rome in 1982 and has 10 years’ experience in the probabilistic safety analysis of nuclear and industrial installations. He was chair of the UNECE Water Convention between 2012 and 2015 and has over 15 years' experience in international cooperation and negotiation, having been a member of various working groups and task forces under the UNECE, OECD, UN, WHO and EU. He is currently working for the Italian Ministry for the Environment, Land and Sea at the Directorate General for Sustainable Development, Environmental Damage, European Union and International Affairs. He is team leader for cooperation with Eastern Europe, Caucasus, Central Asia and Iran, and coordinator of the EU–Central Asia Platform for Environment and Water. He is national focal point for the pan-European Environment and Health Process and a member of the European Environment and Health Task Force.
